Reading bones: evolutionary and forensic perspectives

Abstract

Bones are unique witnesses of life events and also about what might have happened at the time of death. While alive, they are dynamic, resistant, flexible, recording a lot of information. After death, they become dry, and the key is to decode the language of the data written on bones. Both human evolution and forensic anthropology are based on bones and on the capacity of speaking their language. We will approach some significant events of human evolution which were solved by bone fossils. Regarding forensic anthropology, we will discuss some criminal cases which were also unraveled using the correct interpretation of skeletal remains. Specific topics will be debated such age at death estimation based on bones and teeth of adult individuals.
